My New Leather Stitcher!

For some time now, I had been dreaming about buying an industrial leather sewing machine. I love the process of hand stitching, but the drain on my time created by hand stitching each item was limiting the variety of products I wanted to put out. After considering all of my options, I decided to buy from The Leather Sewing Machine Company in Ontario, California. I bought a Cobra Class 4 Leather Stitcher, and man can that thing sew. It came to me wrapped up on a pallet, and it weighs a ton.

I have had my fair share of snafus with the thing. Tension, thread size, leather thickness, threading the machine, the presser feet. Its all new and fun, but also comes with a steep learning curve! Sometimes I feel like the machine is tinkering with me and not the other way around.

With that said, I love the freedom I have now to tackle larger and more complicated projects. The machine is very simple; It sews forward and in reverse in a straight line, but that is really all I need!
Once I had somewhat mastered the basics, I really started to love the smooth, even, beautiful stitching that I could produce either by using the foot pedal or for more detailed parts, the hand wheel. I have already been able to do so much more with the leather stitcher, like the detailed stitching on this custom ordered beauty.
I will still be hand stitching certain items as well as adding hand stitched details to some larger products. I just love the way the hand stitching looks.
I’m looking forward to seeing what I can create with my new sewing machine.
Love, Jo
Nice!
So neat!
Very nice! Reminds me of my mama and her “new” used industrial machine she got for sewing all those quilts. Needed lots of maintenance but fortunately John my brother was there to help.
